Interview: Sepp de Roover

After we interviewed Thomas Buffel, we found another player with a lot of experiences in many great stadiums. Most of his games were played in the Eredivisie, in the Netherlands: Sepp De Roover.

He started his carreer in Belgium by Verbroedering Geel. After a short spell at Willem II Tilburg, he went to the PSV Eindhovens youth team. He was a few times on the teamsheet but he didn’t play for a minute. In the summer of 2005 he went on loan to FC Eindhoven in the second division. At the end of the season he signed at Sparta Rotterdam, where he played every possible minute.

In 2008 he played every game of the Olympics in Bejing with the Belgian olympic team, where they managed to end 4th. He also got called up twice for the Belgian national team. He played games against Hungary and Qatar.

In 2008 he signed at FC Groningen where he only played 41 games in 3 seasons due to a very bad injury. Two years later he signed a 4 years contract with Sporting Lokeren where he stayed for another 2 seasons before moving to NAC Breda on loan before they buy him.

On April 15 2015 he announced the end of his professional career. Nowadays Sepp is selling Jaguars in Peeters Garages in Herentals while he is playing still football by KFC De Kempen in the Belgian 5th division.

Who is the best player you ever played against?

That is an easy question. Ronaldinho! Explanation unnecessary._44901367_ronaldinho282ap Technically perfect, fast, strong…

Which were your highs and lows in your carreer?

My height was the participation with the National team on the Olympic Games in Bejing in 2008. Of course my 2 caps with Belgium against Hungary and Qatar are very special too. My lows are all my injuries who played tricks on me during my carreer.

Which is your opinion the best stadium you ever played in?

De Kuip (Feyenoord) in Rotterdam is impressive!

kuip-uefaHow did it feel to get called up for the national team? How is it as a “newby”?

There is not much difference in club footbal and international football. The integration in such a group is as easy as you want it to be.

Your playing now as an attacker in De Kempen while you played the whole of your carreer as a right back player. What’s your favourite position?

I think most player prefer scoring over defending, so I prefer being a striker. As a defender I had a very offensive style as well.

Do you regret of stopping with proffesional football?

No, I haven’t regret my decision for a single second.

Imagine: Tommorow you get a phone call from a Belgian first division club. They ask you if you would be intrested to sign for them, what would you do?

I wouldn’t be intrested at all. For me it’s a closed chapter to which I look back with a lot of pleasure and pride, but I wouldn’t swap my new job in the Jaguar garage for it!
