KAA Gent – Olympiakos Piraeus 08-07-2016
Game: KAA Gent - Olympiakos Piraeus 2-2 (2-1 HT)
Competition: Friendly, Belgium
Stadium: Ghelamco Arena, Gent
Attendance: +- 10.000(?)
Ticket Price: €20
After watching 2 friendly games of KVK Tienen at the start of the new season I went to KAA Gent - Olympiakos to visit 1 of the 2 stadiums on my to-do list for the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. After this game, the only one I need to visit is the ground of Sporting Charleroi.
At first I was not sure about visting this friendly as they charged me €20 for a ticket.. Which I think is way too much for just a friendly. But anyway, it's so hard to get in this ground during the normal competition (last season almost every game sold out) so I had to do it now I had time and they still had tickets available.
Arriving at the ground parking was a big problem but luckily we found at place at only 2 kilometers walking distance (imagine what it would have been if all their fans would had shown up..).
Arriving at the stadium, the outside looks modern and it even has something speciall but still I don't like the view of having other shops than your own fanshop in the stadium.
The inside of this rather new stadium is not a special as I expected it. The seats are bigger than usual, so no back pain (Hurray!) but that's it. The pitch is build on some kind of platform and there is no way the players can have any contact with the fans after scoring an amazing goal. Forget pitch invasions or streakers, they would have to jump from the stands into a very deep moat, so the fans are far away from the game, which I really dislike. So all in all, the stadium is beautiful but I'm not liking it, I want to be closer to the game.
The game was quite good and ended on a 2-2 draw. The atmosphere was rather cold, but as it's only a pre-season game and 50% of their fans showed up, it's normal.
