This Sunday I went to Beringen as it was the perfect opportunity to visit the "Mijnstadion" which was build in 1925. This beautiful stadium was originally used by Beringen FC from 1925 until 2002. In 2002 Beringen FC merged with their neighbours, KVV Vigor Beringen and they decided to play their games in the Mijnstadion naming the club KVK Beringen.
In 2004 the community council decided to give K. Heusden-Zolder SK the possibilty to play their games in the Mijnstadion as the ground of K. Heusden-Zolder SK is getting too small for their level and in the Mijnstadion they receive their license easily for the higher divisions of Belgian football. They just had to add "Beringen" to they clubname, making it K. Beringen Heusden-Zolder SK.
This also ment KVK beringen was unable to play their games at the Mijnstadion, so they only could return to their old ground of former Vigor Beringen.
K. Beringen Heusden-Zolder only played 2 seasons in this beautiful ground, in the 2nd division of Belgian football as they relegated from the 1st division. When the club played in the 1st division they played together with KRC Genk in the "Fenixstadion" of KRC Genk.
K. Beringen Heusden-Zolder went bankrupt at the end of their 2nd season in the 2nd division and the board of their fanclub decided to restart the club at the lowest, 8th division, of Belgian football, naming it SK Heusden 06.
Nowadays there are still some friendlies or national youth teams playing there games but the ground is now especially used by a woman team, FUFO Beringen.
So, FC Eindhoven and KRC Genk decided to play their game here which ended as a 2-1 win for the hosts, FC Eindhoven. KRC Genk kept their best players benched as they face Buducnost next Thursday in Montenegro for a Europa League qualifier.
