Interview: Darko Lukanovic

Dark Lukanovic is a Bosnian and Herzegovinian/Swedish striker who already played for 11 different teams in 6 different countries over the last decade. He came through the Malmö FF youth system and won the Swedish championship in 2004. Afterwards he went to Antwerp FC, CF Atlético Ciudad, IF Limhamn, CSU Vointa Sibiu, Cahlaul, Rapid Bucharest, Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Landskrona BoIS and GS Kallithea, where he is active right now. As I remembered him from his too short period at KVK Tienen, I tried to get in contact with him to ask him a few questions, which he kindly answered.

1. As you already played in many countries, which is the best part of your career until now? Or the most beautiful moment you have?
For me the best moment was at the start of my career. I was only 19 years old and it was my first year with the first team in Malmö FF. The club hadn't won a title for 16 years and that year we finally won it. It was an unforgettable moment, a memory for life and a good experience for me.

2. You already played at a lot of different places but which is the most beautiful stadium you ever played in?
I think the best stadium so far must be the national stadium in Bucharest, Romania. It can hold 55.000 fans, it's huge, beautiful, they can close the roof and the fact that I scored there makes it even more special for me.

3. From all those places, where did you like or feel the atmosphere around the pitch the best?
Almost everywhere I played, the atmosphere was very good but the best atmosphere must have been in Antwerp FC and Rapid Bucharest I think. Both teams have a big history and great fans, creating a lot of atmosphere and living for the club. Their fans even recognise me on the streets, talk to me about football,..

4. Can you also tell me who the best player is you ever played against?
I played against many good player but I think I had the best one in my team. Danijel Majstorovic is a great player and good defender. He's a big professional and he played with big clubs (Malmö, FC Twente, FC Basel, AEK Athens, Celtic FC,..). He is always 100% focused on the job and still he loves the game very much.

5. Do you still have contact with some people in Belgium? Which is your best memory about Belgium?
Yes, I still have contact with a lot of people as I have spent 4 years over there. A couple of weeks ago I returned to Antwerp and I have to be honnest that the club and their fans are my best Belgian memory. I hope they return to the first division, where the club and their great fans belong.
