After visiting Fortuna Düsseldorf U19 at the Paul-Janes Stadion I went to Wuppertal where I would see their "Under 23", who were visiting former Bundesliga club Wuppertaler SV. The club was founded in 1954 and managed to play 3 seasons at the highest level (1972-1975). In their first season the club got qualified for the UEFA Cup, where they met Ruch Chorzów. WSV lost the first leg with 4-1 but still 13.000 people showed up for the return. In the return, the Germans managed to win 5-4 after being 1-3 down. In 2013 it was announced that the club was bankrupt, which resulted in an enforced relegation to the Oberliga (5th level), from which they are promoted since last season.

Their beautiful Stadion am Zoo was built in 1924 and can hold 28.300 spectators but for security reasons only 23.067 fans are allowed. The main stand, which has 5000 seats, was renovated in the 90's and only the facade was left, as it's an official historical landmark. The rather special location, as it's surrounded by nature, the attractive facade and the beautiful terraces make the ground absolutely worth visiting.

Today's game against Fortuna Düsseldorf II was rather dull. The home team got 2-0 up after just 25 minutes while Fortuna didn't manage to create a single chance. After the break the game became even more slow and WSV didn't manage to score another goal, making the game end at 2-0.
