After visiting Liverpool FC U19 against NK Maribor U19 at Prenton Park, I was off for the real stuff; Liverpool FC against NK Maribor in the Champions League, which was only my 2nd Champions League game after Bayer Leverkusen - Tottenham Hotspur last year. I managed to get tickets thanks to a Facebook group and the very kind lad even took us back to our hotel in Manchester.

Liverpool FC was founded in 1892 while Anfield was already bult in 1884. At first the ground actually belonged to Everton FC but in 1892 they moved to their current Goodison Park. Liverpool FC is one of the most important and successful clubs in English and European football, winning 5 Champions League editions, 3 Uefa Cups and 3 European Supercups. In England they became 18 times champions of England, the club also won 7 FA Cup's, 8 League Cups and 16x the Charity Shield.

In today's game against Maribor the visitors had no chance against a much stronger Liverpool. Liverpool could have scored a few goals before the break but the visiting goalkeeper kept his sheets clean. After the break the home team scored the 3 goals while the visitors only managed to get a few corners. In contrast to the game on the pitch, the Maribor fans were much more alive in the stands than the English ones. I honnestly expected a much better atmosphere at Anfield, especially because of their "famous" Champions League nights but many fans said it was because of the rather easy opponent.
